THE East Coast Surf Festival will reach fever pitch this Saturday as elite surf sports athletes battle for a place in the overall top-16 at Shelly Beach.
Sunday is the final and prize round, but first the athletes must secure a place in the top-16 in their chosen event/s to take centre stage. The final round on Sunday [from 10am], also at Shelly Beach, will have the added attraction of being televised by NBN.
With more than $70,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs the intensity on the beach and in the surf is set to soar. Interest has been shown by Queensland clubs suggesting the top NSW competitors will have many challenges before them as they try to consolidate their Round 1 performance at Newcastle’s Dixon Park Beach on Saturday, November 7.
The open ironman and ironwoman races will be key events.
The top 10 in each of these events are dominated by seasoned and upcoming athletes.
Competition on Saturday will start at 9am at Shelly Beach [Shelly Beach is at the end of Wyong Road, Bateau Bay].
