The NSW Liberal Party has selected Wyong councillor John McNamara as its candidate for the seat of Dobell for the next federal election.
Liberal Party state director Mark Neeham said he was "extremely pleased" to have Mr McNamara as the candidate.
Mr McNamara was selected by the State Executive after the previous candidate, Gary Lee, withdrew.
“It was regrettable that Mr Lee decided to withdraw his candidacy for personal reasons," Mr Neeham said.
"However, it was important that the Liberal Party act quickly and select another candidate as we approach the federal election."
Mr McNamara has a track record of working hard for the community, particularly for sport and charity, Mr Neeham said.
He was a co-founder of the Warnervale Sports Club and is a current patron. He is a past board member of Camp Breakaway and board member of Central Coast Sports Federation.
He was elected to Wyong Shire Council in 2008 and elected deputy mayor for 2008-09.
Mr McNamara is the regional account director for a telecommunications company.
“I am honoured to have been chosen as the Liberal Party’s representative for the seat of Dobell," Mr McNamara said.
"I understand there is a lot of work ahead in gaining the community’s trust and support. But I believe the electorate has not received the representation it deserves under Labor.
“I will be a strong voice for our community, so we receive the investment in services such as health and roads, which we deserve.
“It’s also quite clear that Labor does not know how to manage the economy and the great big new mining tax is costing Australian jobs and putting the country’s prosperity at risk."
