DHARUG and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society's meeting on Saturday, July 25, will feature a talk by David Jenson, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Mawson's Huts Foundation.
The talke will be held in the old Wesleyan Chapel at 6445 Wisemans Ferry Road, Gunderman.
Visitors are welcome, and the talk will be preceded by a barbecue lunch at noon.
Mrr Jenson will talk about the conservation of Mawson's Huts at Commonwealth Bay in the Antarctic, highlighting past expeditions, the preservation work that has been carried out there and plans for future expeditions.
Thes talk will be accompanied by a DVD presentation and images from the expeditions.
The Mawsons Huts Foundation has been established to conserve the unique, historical buildings known as Mawson's Huts, base for one of the most significant expeditions in Antarctic history.
The Dharug and Lower Hawkesbury Historical Society Incorporated exists to promote and encourage the study of the local history of the Lower Hawkesbury, and to collect, preserve, disseminate and publish material relating to that area which includes the communities of Mangrove Creek, Spencer, Gunderman, Macdonald Valley and the northern bank of Wisemans Ferry.
The Society is a friendly, welcoming group of people interested in preserving and protecting the local history.
The society meets on the last Saturday of the month.
