POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a fatal motor vehicle crash at Berkley Vale on Thursday to come forward and assist investigators.
About 4.30pm on Thursday, police said a 65-year-old Tumbi Umbi man was driving a white 2001-model Toyota Corolla eastbound along Wyong Road.
It’s believed he dropped off an unidentified woman after an apparent argument and then continued driving.
A short time later, the man’s car appears to have veered sharply and struck the guard rail.
The Toyota then crossed to the opposite side of the road, mounted a kerb and stuck a tree.
Although the impact was not significant the man appeared to suffer a heart attack at the scene and his condition deteriorated before he died at Wyong Hospital.
Police have commended the actions of three women who rendered immediate first aid to the driver and resuscitated him. An application will be made to have them recognised for their efforts.
Investigators believe several witnesses to the crash - including a woman who stopped and assisted but left prior to police arrival - can assist with their investigations.
Police would also like to identify the woman who had been a passenger in the car prior to the crash.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command on (02) 4333 2999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
