NINE local high schools will share up to $13 million funding as part of the Federal Government's Trade Training Centres in Schools program.
Member for Dobell Craig Thomson said the program aims to help young people to be equipped with the skills they need to effectively and competitively participate in the workforce of tomorrow.
“It addresses skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries by ensuring Australian students have access to high-quality relevant education and training opportunities that engage and encourage them to complete their studies," Mr Thomson said.
Up to $9 million will be shared by Lake Munmorah High School, Gorokan High School, Wadalba Community School, Lakes Grammar, Northlakes High School and Wyong High School for a range of works including the upgrading of agricultural, hospitality and engineering facilities.
And up to $4 million will be shared by St Peter's Catholic College, Central Coast School for Children with Autism, and MacKillop Catholic College for works including the construction of a new hospitality area, and upgrades to metal and engineering facilities.
“The Australian Government is increasing opportunities for young people in partnership with the states and territories and the non-government school sectors,” Mr Thomson said.
“Congratulations to all our local secondary schools that applied for and were successful in the second phase of this program.
“I encourage all of our eligible secondary schools to work closely with their education authorities to develop high quality, sustainable proposals. This is a fantastic result for the Central Coast.
“Our young people will now have a better chance at gaining the skills they need for longer-term employment.”
