THE NSW Government has awarded $3,300 to the Bateau Bay PCYC to run a new boxing training and gym program aimed at kids and young adults.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Kevin Greene and member for The Entrance Grant McBride today announced funding that will give more young people a chance to enjoy sport and stay healthy.
"It's great to see the Bateau Bay PCYC get their new boxing training and gym program off the ground," Mr Greene said.
"This program will help young people learn how to be fit and healthy, improve self-esteem and develop character.
"The PCYC has also invested in a new boxing ring and new equipment that shows they are committed to the future success of the programs."
The program is being co-ordinated by former Australian heavyweight boxing champion Bob Mirovic.
Mr McBride welcomed the funding which will help prevent and reduce crime, by and against young people, in and around the local community.
"The Central Coast has the highest percentage of young people under 19 in NSW," he said.
"The Bateau Bay PCYC has had tremendous success in working with young people in The Entrance, Long Jetty, Bateau Bay, Killarney Vale and Tumbi Umbi areas.
"Through new initiatives and activities, it has grown to hold the largest membership base of any PCYC in the state. The $3,300 in funding will go towards keeping young people involved and active in the community.
"I'm extremely pleased that Mr Greene is here today to support the new boxing training and gym program.
"It's a fantastic opportunity that I strongly encourage local youth to take up."
